The main problem in formulating and manufacturing a laundry detergent tablet is that tablets formed by only a light compaction pressure tend to crumble and break up on handling and packing. The more strongly compacted tablets may be sufficiently cohesive but will fail to disperse in an adequate extent or time frame in the wash liquor. So the main challenge is to keep a balance between a pellet that on the one hand is strong enough for handling and transportation, and on the other hand is readily dissolved and dispersed during use.
